Elderly people are reported as having difficulty using the buttons on parking machines
Jonathan Smith points out that this is just one of many ways in which, in society today, those of more advanced years can be marginalised and made to feel like second-class citizens:
- call centres made inaccessible to anyone that is hard of hearing
- packaging, bottle tops and tin openers made impossible for frail hands
- “disabled” toilets requiring long walks to reach them
- and “self-help” everywhere
He says need a complete re-think, otherwise our growing elderly population will become increasingly excluded.
