COVID-19: the unequal killer

Jonathan highlights the disproportionate effect of Covid-19 on those least able to cope.

Esther McVey MP represents one of the most unequal constituencies in the country, and puts herself forward as the leading Conservative advocate for the less well-off.
Yet, in a vote in Parliament on 4th. March, she voted against calling on the Government to “bring forward a world-leading health inequalities strategy to take action on the social determinants of health”.
It is clear, now, that the coronavirus causes far more illness and death amongst the disadvantaged: “People facing the greatest deprivation are experiencing a higher risk of exposure to COVID-19, and existing poor health puts them at risk of more severe outcomes if they contract the virus” [Health Foundation 7.5.20.].
How will her vote on 4th. March help improve the lives of those who are suffering most from this pandemic?
