As a former Director of Social Services and Children’s Services Specialist, I applaud the efforts of the local Council to recruit more foster carers, and the Knutsford Guardian for covering the story (‘’More foster carers sought by Cheshire East Council’’ 4th. October).

My many years of working closely with foster carers left me in no doubt as to the unique value of their role, of the selfless sharing of their homes with young people much less advantaged than themselves, and of the way such care can transform the life chances of children in care. Being a foster carer or family is often challenging; but hugely rewarding in so many ways.
