Never in my lifetime did I expect to see our country allow its government to plan to slash its contribution to the funding of UNICEF, and by a huge 60%.
This country, my country, has done many wrong things, but it has also done so much good in the world as well.
Chief amongst these have been: caring about what happens beyond our own borders; promoting international institutions; respecting all life; and especially the lives and welfare of children.
What possible moral justification can there be for one of the richest countries in the world, proud of its generosity when disaster appeals are made, and purporting to be seeking a stronger presence on the global stage, to consider slashing aid to such a profoundly respected and important body.
This must be stopped. It is not being done in my name.
