Saving the Green Belt

There are few local causes more critical, and more urgent, than the campaign to stop the building of 225 houses on a precious piece of wild, natural, open land south of Longridge, on the edge of Knutsford.

It has been a long time coming, but, finally, a planning application has been submitted by the owners, Dewscope, and the deadline for comments is on 22nd. July.

As Liberal Democrats, we have been working closely with local activists since 2019, supporting their efforts to seek to prevent such an application, but the die is now cast, and we will do all we can to put a halt to this shocking proposal.

Please could everyone reading this consider helping by accessing the planning application on the Council’s web-site, and registering their objections. The application number is 21/3100M.

It is said by some that the Longridge area will benefit from the investment, but the destruction of such a valuable green ‘lung’ in south Knutsford would blight the area for generations to come.

Of course we need to build more houses - but they should be built on brown-field sites not woodlands and meadows, and planning policies should favour the environment over concrete and tarmac. This application, we believe, has no merit whatsoever.
