Social Care - still no plan!

Jonathan has responded to the concerns expressed by the Alzheimer’s Society reported in the Knutsford Guardian (“Calls to reform social care as number of people with dementia in Cheshire predicted to increase”, 24th. May)

They are a powerful call to action.

He says

"Earlier on in this pandemic crisis, I highlighted the uniquely challenging issues faced by the NHS and the most vulnerable in our society, and the hope these would finally force the Government to bring forward credible, deliverable, and costed proposals for social care.

How naïve I was! Here we are, many months later, with many lives lost or blighted, after a budget that side-stepped social care entirely, and a set of nation-wide elections when the issue of social care was ignored by both Conservatives and Labour, and no progress.

As a former Director of Social Services, I am shocked at such neglect. Only the Liberal Democrats have been talking about the urgency of sorting out social care, the need to improve support for carers, and the critical state of staffing both in health and social care.

Let’s make 2021 the year that we finally take this issue seriously, and come together to find solutions."
