Living as they do in one of the most unequal Constituencies in the country, residents of Tatton might have expected that the national response to the pandemic would have set out not to widen, still further, the gaps in income, health, and education.
It is clear, now, that the exact opposite has happened, with the prospect of things getting even worse.
To start reversing the damage, the Government should:
- immediately, make the temporary increases to Universal Credit permanent
- ensure all eligible children have enough healthy food during every school holidays, as they do in Spain and elsewhere
- provide appropriate lap-tops to all school pupils, from an early age
- introduce a Universal Basic Income
